Matt Vu (b. 1994, Bellflower, CA) is a Vietnamese-American composer, educator, and pianist based in Atlanta, Georgia. Vu’s work melds a variety of influences from classical and jazz to pop and R&B; it focuses on tempering unique harmonic language, elements groove, and creative arrangement with orchestration ranging from orchestra and wind ensemble to chamber and jazz ensembles. Matt actively performs as a pianist, both as a freelancer and a member of Misnomer, a jazz-fusion outfit, and the LSV Trio, a lo-fi chamber ensemble. Vu also holds passion for teaching, having worked in schools teaching courses such as AP Music Theory, music technology, physics, and biology. Currently, he is pursuing graduate studies in music composition at Georgia State University in Atlanta, where he works as a graduate teaching assistant for the music theory and composition department. He earned his undergraduate degrees in music education and piano from the University of Georgia.
